Maria Elena Lagomasino (Mel) is CEO of GenSpring Family Offices, a multi-family office that was originally established in 1989 as Asset Management Advisors (AMA). Mel was named CEO of the firm in November, 2005. She is a recognized leader in the wealth management industry. With over $18 billion under advisement, GenSpring has been chosen by more than 700 families to manage their wealth for generations.
Prior to joining GenSpring, Mel served as chairman and chief executive officer of JP Morgan Private Bank, an institution with more than $300 billion in client assets under supervision. Her career in banking began in 1977 at Citibank. She joined the Chase Manhattan Private Bank in 1983 and was named head of Chase's worldwide private banking business in 1997. Following the Chase-JP Morgan merger, she became chairman and chief executive officer of the JPMorgan Private Bank.
Mel serves on the boards of The Coca-Cola Company, Avon Products, Inc., the Lincoln Center Theater and is a trustee on the Board of the National Geographic Society. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and The Economic Club of New York. In September 2006, she was appointed to serve on the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Transformational Diplomacy. In November 2005, she was appointed by president Bush to help lead an effort to secure private sector funds to aid disaster victims in Central America.
A graduate of Manhattanville College (B.A.), Mel also completed graduate work at both Columbia University (M.S.) and Fordham University (M.B.A.).
Mike was named chief operating officer of GenSpring Family Offices in November 2005. He was most recently chief operating officer of JP Morgan Private Bank, an institution with more than $300 billion in client assets under supervision, where he was responsible for finance, operations, technology, client services and risk management for the global business. Mike was previously director of Global Wealth Management there.
A seasoned executive in the wealth management arena, Mike spent more than 12 years with The Chase Manhattan Private Bank, before Chase merged with JP Morgan in 2002. During his years at Chase he held progressively more responsible positions, including serving as chairman and president of The Chase Manhattan Bank of Florida and as US Market Manager at The Chase Manhattan Private Bank.
Mike serves on the Advisory Board of the Wolfsonian Museum at Florida International University (FIU). He holds degrees from St. Lawrence University (B.A.) and Columbia University (MA and MPhil).
Michael is the senior executive partner of GenSpring Family Offices. In this capacity, he has responsibility for the leadership and management of GenSpring's client facing organization which includes the firm's network of local family offices, key advisory practices and the delivery of the overall client experience. In addition, he is chairman of the firm's Operating Committee which is responsible for advising the CEO on key strategic issues facing the firm.
Prior to his role at GenSpring, Michael was managing director and global head of Wealth Solutions at JP Morgan Private Bank. In this capacity, as a member of the executive team, he had responsibility for strategic planning, branding, marketing and specialized advisory services (family governance, philanthropy and fine art wealth management) for the worldwide private bank.
A management consultant by training, Michael led projects in the financial services area for both Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and Booz, Allen & Hamilton. He joined Chase Manhattan in 1995 as vice president in the investment bank, and moved to the private bank in 1997 to head up strategy and marketing worldwide. JP Morgan and Chase Manhattan merged in January 2002.
Michael graduated from Brandeis University, (B.A.) and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He also studied at The London School of Economics. He resides with his wife Julia, and three children in New York City.
After graduating from the Wharton School in 1970, Henry (Hap) Perry went to work for his family's businesses. He took on a variety of operational roles, leading start-up and turn-around situations in industries ranging from modular housing to sub-sea engineering to cable television. In addition to managing the family enterprises, he started a number of businesses on his own in the cable television, automobile, medical and real estate fields.
After selling most of the operations in the 1980s, the management of his family's liquid wealth became more of an increasing concern. In 1989, after 18 months of research, he began Asset Management Advisors, Inc. for himself and other members of his family. Asset Management Advisors, now known as GenSpring Family Offices, is a pioneer of the family office industry and is currently one the largest multi-family offices in the United States. Hap is currently chairman emeritus of GenSpring.
Hap is also the founder and chairman of the Foundation for Science and Spirituality, an education and research foundation studying the intersection of science and religion. He also participates in several investment industry think tanks and resource groups.
Andrew is the chief investment officer for GenSpring Family Offices. Andrew's responsibilities involve development and management of GenSpring's investment process, investment strategy, and identification and selection of money managers. In addition, he is chairman of GenSpring's Investment Committee and is responsible for GenSpring's proprietary investment solutions.
Andrew comes to GenSpring from an impressive history of professional portfolio management and investment advisory services, including several years as the chief investment officer for DCA Global Investment Management. Andrew, a Chartered Financial Analyst, also brings valuable client service and marketing expertise to GenSpring.
Andrew received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He has also completed course work in the Behavioral Finance seminar held at Harvard University and the Investment Management Workshop at Harvard University Business School. He holds the Series 3 and 65 securities licenses and is a member of The Economic Club of New York.
David has been with GenSpring Family Offices since 2001. As chief wealth advisory officer and head of GenSpring's Wealth Advisory Center, David is responsible for the firm-wide development and support of all non-investment deliverables offered to GenSpring client families.
Prior to taking on this company-wide role with GenSpring, David served as the founder and president of GenSpring's Atlanta office. David has deep and varied experience in a broad range of wealth management issues. He has investment banking experience with The First Boston Corporation and Morgan Stanley, and estate planning experience as a senior manager with Arthur Andersen & Co. and as a partner with the King & Spalding law firm in Atlanta, where he specialized in sophisticated estate planning for high net worth families. Prior to joining GenSpring, he was a vice president and investment manager at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he assisted high net worth families on a broad range of investment management and financial advisory issues.
David is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of Yale College (1984) and has a J.D. degree from Yale Law School (1988).
Steve joined GenSpring Family Offices in 2001. As chief marketing officer, Steve is responsible for GenSpring's brand positioning and development and corporate communications. He leads GenSpring's Innovation & Learning Center in Jupiter, Florida, which serves as the company's knowledge management hub. His activities include leading all aspects of brand management, GenSpring's national and regional learning events, including the Family Symposium and Men's and Women's Retreats, investor relations, research & development and public relations.
Steve is a recognized speaker on the topic of family wealth and has appeared on CBS' The Early Show, National Public Radio (NPR) and has been cited in several leading publications, including the Wall Street Journal and New York Magazine, along with industry publications, including the Journal of Wealth Management and Family Business magazine. Currently, Steve serves on the board of directors of the Family Firm Institute.
Prior to joining GenSpring, Steve was president of Sageworks, Inc., a developer of financial advisory software, which he joined after spending more than 10 years as an advisor to entrepreneurs and family businesses, most recently as a director with First Union Securities, Inc. He holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Bucknell University and a Master's of Business Administration from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Bill, an attorney with more than twenty years experience in trust and estate and wealth management issues, serves as the firm's chief fiduciary officer. He is also chairman of Teton Trust Company, the firm's trust company affiliate. Bill has firm-wide responsibility for the delivery of trust services and solutions.
Prior to joining GenSpring, Bill was managing director and chief fiduciary officer of Citigroup Trust and head of the Fiduciary Solutions Group. Before that, Bill was a managing director with JP Morgan Chase & Co., where he served as global head of the Wealth Transfer and Succession Planning Group and was responsible for a variety of fiduciary planning and administration services for private bank clients worldwide.
Before embarking on a banking career, Bill practiced law, concentrating on trust and estate matters. He was an attorney with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and Casey, Lane & Mittendorf. He advised both U.S. and international clients.
Bill is a member of The Alice Tully Foundation, the Bankers and Lawyers Advisory Committee of the New York Philharmonic, the Executive Committee of the Trust Management Association of the American Bankers Association, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. His biography appears in Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the world.
Bill received a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Brown University, a J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law, and an M.B.A from the Yale School of Management.
John Elmes is a senior partner primarily responsible for GenSpring's business development efforts. John joined the firm in 2002 when he opened the GenSpring Family Office in Chevy Chase, Maryland by transitioning a wealth management practice from Alex. Brown.
John was a director and founder of the Personal CFO Group at Alex. Brown which was structured to deliver integrated wealth planning services. Within Alex. Brown, the practice was regarded as the preferred model to serve the needs of ultra high net worth families.
Prior to Alex. Brown, John was a partner at Arthur Anderson leading the Mid-Atlantic region's investment advisory group. John was a member of the original team that formed the multi-disciplined wealth management practice and concentrated his time working with families to implement planning solutions to achieve their objectives.
John is a graduate of George Mason University summa cum laude with a degree in Finance/Investments and is a CFA. He is a member of GenSpring's Operating, Risk and Pricing Committees.
John lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with his wife, Debbie and son, John III, and is an avid outdoorsman.
Eamon joined GenSpring Family Offices in 2006 as the director of human resources overseeing GenSpring's human resources function. In support of GenSpring's continued expansion, Eamon is focused on an aggressive talent acquisition strategy along with building a comprehensive organizational model that will support future growth.
Prior to joining GenSpring, Eamon spent more than 16 years in human resources with JPMorganChase and operated as an HR business partner for the wealth management business since 1994. Starting with the Technology, Operations & Client Services groups, Eamon assumed additional responsibilities for business groups such as U.S. and Latin America Client Relationship Managers, Investment Management, and Trust and Estate Professionals.
Eamon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Iona College.
Formerly TBK Investments, Inc., GenSpring International is lead by Santiago Ulloa. Santiago founded TBK in 2000 to counsel and advise high net worth families from around the world. With his dedication to objective and ethical service he has overseen the dramatic growth of the office since inception.
In August of 2007, TBK joined forces with GenSpring Family Offices. Prior to his position at GenSpring, Santiago was with BBVA “Banco Bilbao Vizcaya” where he oversaw Private Banking for all of Latin America as well as product development and regional distribution for the Americas. He was an active member of the Council Board of Banco Provincial Overseas in Curazao (BBVA Group) and of the “BBVA American Fund Managers Limited” (BBVA's asset management firm). Previously, he represented Argentaria in Argentina and was member of the Directive Council of Banco Exterior of Argentina. Formerly, he was assistant manager of Banco Banif de Gestion Privada (BSCH Group) in Spain, where he was part of the international team managing Private Banking assets abroad and international clients within Spain.
Santiago attended the Universidad Compluterse, and he completed the Advanced Executive MBA Program at IESE in Barcelona, Spain. Santiago is a frequent guest speaker on CNN Español and is frequently featured in Dinero magazine among other business publications.
As one of the two national directors of GenSpring's Family Business Center, JoEllen, along with Steve Salley, oversees all services for family held businesses owned by GenSpring families.
Prior to joining GenSpring Family Offices, JoEllen was a tax consultant with the Greenberg Traurig law firm, and prior to that was the managing partner with Andersen's Orlando office. In both of these positions, her emphasis was on tax and financial planning for high net worth individuals.
She received her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Accounting from Michigan State University. Her current civic passion is being on the Board and Finance Committee of Lighthouse, a not for profit organization dedicated to providing training for the visually handicapped.
As one of the two senior partners heading GenSpring's Family Business Center, Steve, along with JoEllen Ross, oversees all family office services for family held businesses owned by GenSpring families. Additionally, they are the senior partners partnering with GenSpring's Fiduciary Group, the division that deals with all fiduciary operations for families and GenSpring's proprietary trust company, Teton Trust in Wyoming. Prior to joining GenSpring Family Offices, Steve was a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig PA law firm in Orlando. He is a certified tax attorney with over 30 years' experience focused on integrating family and estate planning, trust administration, and closely held business planning, as well as representing clients in tax controversies with state and federal tax authorities. His legal practice centered on representation of individuals, families and tax exempt entities, with a particular focus on the interrelationship of family planning and family enterprises.
A noted speaker and author, Steve lectures frequently on tax, succession planning, estate planning and fiduciary issues. He is a member of the Executive Council of the Florida Bar, Tax Section; co-chair of the American Bar Association's Committee on Estate Planning for Business Interests and Owners; and was formerly the Florida Bar liaison to the United States Tax Court. In addition to being a senior partner for the Family Business Center and the Fiduciary Services Group he is a participant in the firm's Innovation and Learning Center, GenSpring's training and intellectual property development arm.
Prior to joining GenSpring, Steve was been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America by US News & World Report, listed in Florida Monthly as one of the top lawyers in Florida, and listed as one of the Legal Elite by Florida Trend Magazine. He received his Bachelor of Arts with honors from Harvard University, his JD with high honors from University of Florida Levin College of Law, and his LL.M, Taxation, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Formerly Inlign Wealth Management, the Phoenix Local Family Office is lead by Mark. He founded Inlign in 2002, and in January of 2008, Inlign joined forces with GenSpring Family Offices to form a world-class wealth management firm to serve ultra-high net worth individuals and families in the United States and internationally. Mark possesses approximately 25 years experience in the wealth management industry.
In his role as senior partner with GenSpring Family Offices, Mark is responsible for overseeing the original local family offices of GenSpring. He also oversees and provides wealth management and family office services to clients in the Phoenix office.
From 1984 to 2002, Mark enjoyed a career at Arthur Andersen LLP, where he served as partner in charge of the Private Client Services practice since 1996. From 1995 to 2002, he served as vice chairman of the Board of Directors of Arthur Andersen Financial Advisers, as well as its Executive Committee. From 1996 through 2002, Mark assisted in the development of the strategic direction of the Private Client Services practice under Arthur Andersen's U.S. tax leadership. Mark began his career working for his parents' financial planning firm in 1982, where he began learning the industry.
Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Science Center, Free Arts of Arizona, Sound Technologies, LLC, and is also a member of Greater Phoenix Leadership. Mark is a past president of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern and Central Arizona and a past trustee of the Desert Botanical Garden. He has been active with Phoenix Children's Hospital and Translational Genomics Research Institute.
Mark earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Arizona State University in 1984. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®), and a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS). Mark is a member of the AICPA, the Arizona Society of CPAs (ASCPA), the Investment Management Consultants Association ("IMCA"), the Central Arizona Estate Planning Council ("CAEPC") and the Financial Planning Association. He currently holds the Series 65 securities license.
